I waited 3 hours with strangers for one of the biggest sporting events of the year. I stood for an hour and a half before a nice family gave up out of their chairs for me. When I arrived there were no tables and no seats. I called several bars and found Buffalo Wild Wings was showing the fight. The most dominant female UFC fighter is returning to take back her crown. So much anticipation was leading up to this fight. Rousey was to challenge the current champion, Amanda Nunes. Several months past and news stories arose that she went into a deep depression and even contemplated suicide. So much tension was on the line for her- retaining her title, proving to people that she IS the best, proving to herself that she is the best, media, sponsorship’s, fame, money, should I go on? On the outside she seemed to be in control and fearless but in the inside she was fighting this massive war that was bigger than the fight at hand. What happened to Ronda on that November day in Australia wasn’t the fact that she wasn’t the greatest in the world, it was her head that got in the way.

I was always told by my dad that the game of golf is 90% mental. What’s the difference than when LeBron James boosts about him being the greatest basketball player? Or when Tiger Woods couldn’t seem to lose and he claimed is was the greatest? People seemed to dislike the narcissistic, prideful Rousey. With all that major success, Ronda seemed to bask in it, using every opportunity to let the world that she is the greatest and no one can defeat her. If you’re curious about all of her stats you can see them here: (I don’t want to bore you with all of them typed out). Going undefeated in 12 straight matches and winning 9 of them in less than a minute, Ronda became one of the most dominant female athletes in history. So not only did she single handily shape the sport of MMA for women, she has also become an enormous role model for woman of all ages. Like her recent Pantene ad, “Strong Is Beautiful”. She is the pioneer for women in MMA and a woman who broke the glass ceiling not only in MMA but for women’s sports across the world. Arguably the most dominant UFC fighter, male or female, Ronda Rousey is known to the world as a badass chick with a bone chilling stare that can knock you out in seconds.
